triceratops Randomly stumbled upon this, and am so glad I did. Delicate alt-country/folk-pop that makes for great listening when you're out on the porch on a warm summer night.

Balance 05:14
Balance I spent an awful lot of time just a-thinking about you Going back and forth with the pros and the cons I spent an awful long time wondering what to do Until I made up my mind I never knew that there was something worth fighting for I’d rather just give it up and be left sore I only knew what it felt like to close a door But that was all before Cause when it comes to loving you I lose my balance When it comes to loving you That’s all I do Oh when it comes to loving you I lose my balance When it comes to loving you That’s all I do Now I’m sitting here thinking about the way that it could be And how I cant imagine life without you next to me I’m falling over myself just to make you smile And have you stay awhile Cause when it comes to loving you I lose my balance When it comes to loving you That’s all I do Oh when it comes to loving you I lose my balance When it comes to loving you That’s all I do

Playwright 05:09
Playwright She’s a hopeless romantic and she’ll write everybody in And build a cast of characters from beginning til the end When she doesn’t like her story she’ll scratch it and start again With a whole new batch of scenery, satisfaction from her pen. She’s a playwright Lord she’s a playwright With a heart set on the future And dreams stuck in the past She’s a playwright Well each man has so much to offer but when he cannot stand the sun A new one comes along and she’ll cast him as ‘the one’ But when his character shows defects she’ll create a hidden twist In her heart she’ll write the reasons for the glory that they missed She’s a playwright Lord she’s a playwright With a heart set on the future And dreams stuck in the past She’s a playwright Well the actor’s inexperienced and he fumbles as he goes But she looks past his innocence as she clarifies her prose She’ll blame it on the casting but the audience all know It’s the writer of the play whose lack of vision shows She’s a playwright Lord she’s a playwright With a heart set on the future And dreams

Since She’s Gone Well since she’s gone, I’ve run out of things to do But I’ve written a song or two just to help me to feel all right ‘I don’t care what makes the world go round As far as I’m concerned we’re all just gonna die’ They say that if its love, you’ve got to let her go And if she comes back to you, brother it sure will show But if you’re forcing her to think it’s meant to be, Your heart will end up lying in pieces on the floor Last I heard, she’d gone out to see some friends To find someone to confide in, to help her to feel all right How I wished they’d talk for hours about me But my name had fled the scene before it had ever arrived They say that if its love, you’ve got to let her go And if she comes back to you, brother it sure will show But if you’re forcing her to think it’s meant to be, Your heart will end up lying in pieces on the floor It can’t be, there’s been a mistake I’m sure I’ve called ten times or more, she must have lost her phone Or maybe, she’s gone down to Mexico, and just forgot to let me know That she’d be back real soon They say that if its love, you’ve got to let her go And if she comes back to you, brother it sure will show But if you’re forcing her to think it’s meant to be, Your heart will end up lying in pieces on the floor Oh if its love, you’ve got to let her go And if she comes back to you, brother it sure will show But if you’re forcing her to think it’s meant to be, Your heart will end up lying in pieces on the floor Your heart will end up lying in pieces on the floor Your heart will end up lying in pieces on the floor

Virginia 04:28
Virginia What’s a man supposed to do When he feels there’s no escape A quick decision that’s been thought about for years And once it’s made it’s made The house was swept; we cut the grass Oh she loved to have us stay The hills behind her seemed to climb and fall for miles And before we ate we prayed I think about that home in Virginia I think about that rope swing on the beech tree where I swung I think about that home in Virginia And I’m gone There’s a beauty that comes with age And it’s humble and it’s kind Earned through a stubborn will and a faith in the unseen And what’s been left behind I’d like to know what made him leave And if that thing’s in me I believe that every battle that isn’t won Is passed down the family tree I think about that home in Virginia I think about that rope swing on the beech tree where I swung I think about that home in Virginia And I’m gone

about

This EP was what became of two days in a small studio in Nashville, TN with a few very close friends and a very dedicated engineer. The four songs included here frame a phase of my life and songwriting that I wanted to capture as if looking at a picture album. The song content deals with the ever-persistent songwriters’ dilemma in dealing with the brevity of life, frustrating relationships, and judgmental assumptions… But I brought an honesty to these themes in a way that haven’t been able to do before, and I’m very satisfied with what I’ve conveyed. My pride is represented equally across the arrangement, sonic texture, chord structure, diction, and delivery of each tune; which is a first for me. The songs were cut live to two-inch tape with minimal overdubs and mixed down with simplicity in mind. Every part of the process of making this EP was kept local, from the musicians, the studio and the mastering engineer, to the vinyl presser in Memphis and the album jacket screen-printer here in Nashville. Enjoy!
